Well, we're back to blogging again and what better way to kick off our new blog than with the birth of our precious baby girl! For anyone who doesn't want to read the details of the birth, stop reading now. :) I had been having a few contractions in the afternoon on Thursday, and Brian was cleaning the house (nesting), so we figured she was coming soon. Well, after our false alarm on Monday night (overnight in the hospital on Pitocin but never dilated past 4cm) we were skeptical to show up again. By 7pm, we thought we better make our way there just in case. We took Simon to our friends' house down the street and arrived at the hospital around 8pm. The nurse checked me - 6cm! Yea, we were staying! Labor was brutal and yucky and after a few "don't touch me!" and "don't breathe in my face" episodes with Brian, we got the epidural. Brian was amazing as always and really helped me through the few contractions I did have to feel. By about 10pm I was about 7.5cm dilated and resting comfortably. Brian decided to go grab a coffee and a snack, and we joked about how glad we were that I would deliver past midnight and not have to worry about Nina ever having a birthday on Friday the 13th. My water broke while he was gone. At 11pm I called the nurse and told her that for some reason I felt like I was having a panic attack. Well, Miss Nina was making her way out - and fast! The nurse checked me and I was 10cm and Nina's head was making it's way out. They quickly called the doctor and the baby nurses and after 2 pushes, I had to stop because she was coming out so fast that she was coming out on her own. She arrived at 11:31, just in time to ensure that her first birthday will indeed be on Friday the 13th. :) She is a big girl - 9lbs 3oz and 21 inches long. She has brownish-reddish hair and a squeak like a little bird. She is perfect in every way and we are so excited and blessed to have her in our lives!
